Do you need a box spring for your mattress?
Most modern mattresses do not require a box spring. Platform or adjustable bases provide equivalent support. Traditionally, box springs were wooden boxes filled with metal coils to add additional flexibility to thinner mattresses. Now, box springs consist mostly of wood and steel which add additional support to the mattress and raise the mattress height off of a frame.
However, there are a few instances where a box spring is recommended. The general rule of thumb is if you have a bed frame which has a gap of greater than 3” in between each cross beam or slat, you definitely need a box spring to properly support the weight. Some older style bed frames are designed specifically to be outfitted with a box spring.
Why should you purchase a mattress from Custom Mattress Makers? We offer a combination of durability and comfort that is hard to beat. A keen focus on materials helped us to concentrate our efforts on thicker coils for our mattresses. This improves the longevity of our products. We also use high-density foam for the same reason. The final key to our success is creating just the right arrangement of coils within the mattresses. Custom Mattress Makers believes that a higher concentration of coils makes for the most comfortable sleeping experience.
